I’d like to share this personal experience with my clients. The desk in my home office was driving me nuts. Every time we had guests, they saw my clutter because of our open floor plan.
I decided that I had to lead by example!
First, I analyzed my situation. I figured out that my desk served as a drop-off area whenever I walked in the door. To do the bills, I always had to start by clearing off my work space.
This dawning recognition led me to empty the surface area and drawers of the entire desk. In the process, I found some items that I didn’t know I had. I found other items that I had lost for ages. I disposed of all the items that I didn’t use any longer, those that were buried deep in the drawers, and those that were broken or old.
Next, I grouped the items that I wanted to keep and assigned them a new place.
This is how my desk looks now. I found a perfect place by the front door for both my purse and my keys. Now I always know where to find them. Equally important, my desk looks so neat that I’m not embarrassed when guests come over.
Being organized makes my life easier.
